As with the child’s sack back, this is a two-thirds size version of a sack back arm chair with the traditional style and advanced craftsmanship of the full size chair.  This chair is perfect for ages two to eight.  This scaled Sack Back chair was a test of the skill of the most skilled chair makers since the parts of the chair are not just proportionally smaller, but must remain of adequate size for strength and durability, while maintaining proper balance and proportion.

The High Chair version of this style is based on the same seat structure with longer legs and foot rest.  As on the full size chair, the crest rail is steam bent with seven spindles extended from the seat through the arm rail. The arm rail is also steam bent and the seat is deeply carved.  Though the leg turnings are smaller, they are sharply defined vase and urn and the same turning pattern is reflected in the arm posts. The smaller spindles and rails are light and delicate, but when integrated into the finished chair, are extremely strong and stable. Tool marks remain throughout the chair reflecting the true hand made quality of the chair.
