New York City Bow Back Chair |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The bow-back side chair (sometimes called loop-back) is striking example of a side chair which incorporates excellent vase and urn baluster turnings with a very refined shield seat, deeply contoured and bound by a carved gutter. The bow is very light and delicate, with a graceful sweeping shape from seat to peak. The bow is through wedged to the seat and five spindles are through wedged to the bow for lasting structural integrity. The braces and two outer spindles on each side are not through wedged to the bow, rather they are blind socketed from below – a very complex process. The brace was added for additional support of the back. Approximate Dimensions: 17 1/2”w, 21” d, 37 1/2’ h |
